Commuter Benefits

A Commuter Benefits plan from CONEXIS lets your employees save money by using pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible transit and parking expenses. Plus, employees help reduce their impact on our environment.

Because these funds are deducted on a pre-tax basis, your organization saves money through reduced FICA contributions. With enough participation, your savings can cover the cost of offering the plan.

Eligible Expenses

Your employees can use the plan to pay for eligible work-related expenses including:

  • Mass Transit Expenses: Subway, train, bus, van pool, street car, and ferry
  • Parking Expenses: Parking at or near work, parking at or near transportation service sites, and Park & Ride expenses

IRS Election Limits

Employees can elect up to the maximum amount allowed under IRS rules:

  • Transit: The monthly pre-tax transit limit for 2016 is $255* per month
  • Parking: The monthly pre-tax parking limit for 2016 is $255 per month

Incredibly Easy for You and Your Employees

With the CONEXIS Commuter Benefits program, there’s no need for you to distribute passes or vouchers. Our online ordering system lets your employees log in to their account to order their transit passes or other media. We send the order directly to their home address. For added convenience, employees can set up recurring orders so they never have to worry about forgetting to order their passes.

Unlike other pre-tax plans, employees can join or leave your Commuter Benefits plan each month. This flexibility leads to higher participation than other types of pre-tax plans, which means greater savings for your organization.

Service Features

  • Extensive nationwide network of providers — more than 100,000 individual transit fare products and more than 9,000 parking locations
  • Online ordering means no claims to submit and no waiting for reimbursement checks
  • 24/7 Web access to account information for employers and participants
  • Our easy-to-use reports provide all the information you need to process payroll deductions and fund your employees’ accounts

* The Omnibus Appropriations Act, signed into law on December 18, 2015, allows parking and transit benefits to have permanent parity. This means the monthly pre-tax limit is the same amount for both transit and parking benefits. The parity is also retroactive to January 1, 2015, and the $250 monthly pre-tax limit set for parking in 2015 applies at the same amount for transit benefits. Please consult your tax advisor for more details.
