Are rising health care costs taking a toll on your bank account? Check to see if your employee benefits include a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA). If so, an HRA is your cost-savings solution for health care expenses.
An HRA is similar to a health flexible spending account (health FSA), but instead of funding the account yourself, your employer provides the money for your HRA. You don’t contribute any money into this account.
You can use HRA funds toward your eligible health care expenses — the out-of-pocket expenses you’re already paying for. As long as there is money in your account, you can use the funds to pay for eligible HRA expenses.
Your employer decides which health care expenses will be reimbursed by your HRA. Most expenses are similar to those reimbursed by a health FSA.
Important: To find out the specific eligible expenses for your HRA plan, review your employer’s Summary Plan Description (SPD).
You’ll really appreciate your HRA! That’s because you don’t pay taxes on the money in your HRA or your reimbursed expenses.
Does your HRA include the CONEXIS Elite Visa® Benefit Card? If so, you will find that paying for health care expenses couldn’t be any easier. The benefit card gives you instant access to your HRA funds so you can pay for eligible expenses at most merchants where Visa is accepted. Learn more on our Benefit Card page.
HRAs benefit everyone — single individuals, families, and retirees. Check out how other people save money on our HRA Savings Examples page.
Your employer sponsors your HRA plan and decides how the plan is set up, how much money goes into the account, if funds can roll over to the following year, and expenses that are reimbursed. Because of this flexibility, each HRA varies from employer to employer. Check your Summary Plan Description (SPD) for specific details about your HRA plan.
